The Veteran Bollywood and TV actress Reema Lagoo passed away on May 18, at the age of 59 after reportedly suffering from cardiac arrest. Her untimely demise left the nation and her friends-fraternity in a state of shock. After the actress complained of chest pain on Wednesday night, she was rushed to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Andheri, Mumbai where she breathed her last. While everyone still mourns the death of the actress, the makers of ‘Naamkarann’ had to think on their toes for an immediate replacement. However, as the saying goes the show must go on. They have an on-going show and the replacement of Reema Lagoo’s character of Dayavanti became pivotal as she is the leading antagonist.
Reema, who was seen playing the lead antagonist ‘Dayavanti Mehta’ in popular Star Plus show ‘Naamkarann’. The ‘Naamkarann’ team had cancelled their shoot yesterday after learning about Reema’s sudden death and now the lady who is all set to begin shooting with them in place of Reema is already on board. Hurriedly, the makers have decided to rope in a popular face as Dayavanti and that actress is none other than another seasoned competitor, Ragini Shah.
Ragini Shah was Last seen in ‘Saraswatichandra’ as ‘Dugba’, the famous Gujarati actress Ragini Shah also played ‘Bhabho’s mother in-law Maa Saa’ in Star Plus popular show ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’. The makers felt she got the tone of Dayawanti Mehta’s character just right. Reema lagoo ji had shot for a major wedding track just before she died. Ragini will take over from the scene where Reema was gunned down.
When contacted, Ragini Shah confirmed the news and said, “Yes, I will be playing Dayawanti Ben’s character. This is the first time I am replacing someone on a show. I have known Reemaji, as we both come from theatre background we knew each other. She was a very humble and full of life person. I was shocked to hear about her death. This is my tribute to her. It is my honour to play such a strong character and I am dedicating this role to Reemaji.”
