Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees was all set to hit the theatres in Pakistan on Sunday. And while the cinegoers were eagerly waiting for the release, it was BANNED in Pakistan.
The film marked the debut of Pakistani actress Mahira Khan but the Pakistan censor board hasn’t cleared the film for release in the country. Why? Because of its ‘objectionable theme and content’.
Well, if media reports are to be believed, an official from the censor board has said that the film has portrayed the Muslims in a negative light and ‘the film’s content undermines Islam, and a specific religious sect, (while also) portraying Muslims as criminals, wanted persons and terrorists’.
Hum Films, the distributor of Raees submitted the film last week for clearance in Pakistan. And while an official with the distributor said that they haven’t received any official word from the Pakistan censor board, it’s all over the news that they have banned the film.
Well, movies like ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and ‘Kaabil’ were released after the unofficial ban in Pakistan, let’s see how it goes with this one.
