On May 2, 2011, the entire world woke up with the news of the death of the dreaded terrorist Osama bin Laden. He was killed by the US Navy Seals at his hideout in Abbottabad. While several things have been said about how he was killed, his wife has opened up for the first time to speak about the night Osama bin Laden was killed.
Osama’s fourth and the youngest wife Amal bin Laden recounted the story of the night her husband was killed by US Special Forces. Amal narrated the story for a book that’s being written by Adrian Levy and Cathy Scott-Clarke, The Exile: The Flight of Osama bin Laden. It revolves around the last minutes of the 9/11 mastermind.
Six years after his death, Amal started by saying that the family had been hiding in Abbottabad for six years, and she still clearly remembers the time when the US Military Black Hawk helicopter landed outside their hideout. She said that Laden asked his wives and children to go downstairs and hide, saying that ‘they want me, not you.’ And while the others went downstairs, Amal said she decided to stay with Osama along with their son, Hussein.
Amal revealed that they had no back up except for some Euros sewn into her husband’s underwear and some emergency numbers for his deputies in Waziristan. Amal said that she is quite sure that someone very close to them revealed the information about their hideout. Then she started to explain how it was like when the Navy Seals started to enter their room. She said that she tried to rush them up but they shot her in the leg and she fell unconscious. Amal said that her son Hussein witnessed the killing of his father, as Osama bin Laden was already dead when she came back to senses.
She recalled that she had to lay still and play dead while the Seals asked Osama’s second wife Khairiah and his two daughters – Sumaiya and Miriam – to confirm his identity. She said that the Seals then took Osama’s body downstairs along with the other family members.
