Muslims across the world are observing the holy month of Ramadan these days, and soon the country will be celebrating Eid. Amidst all this festive mood, a report about a Pakistani journalist being beaten up in a mosque came to light, and has left the nation in shock.
According to a report in The Express Tribune, one Rasheed Azim, who is a staffer of Pakistani TV channel Din News, was covering an assignment with his colleagues in Sector F-8 area. And the report said that he was thrashed by some Pakistani clerics after he drank water during Ramadan in the mosque.
While Rasheed was on an assignment, he went to a local mosque to offer afternoon prayers. According to Rasheed, he was confronted by a cleric, asking him why he was drinking water and not fasting during Ramadan. After he got into an argument with them, they started to beat him up. Soon, his colleagues came inside the mosque and started to shoot the incident.
But this angered the clerics more and they pounced on Rasheed and broke all his camera equipment. They also took photos of his colleagues and chased their cars with stones. The channel crew took refuge in a nearby police station where they also filed a complaint against the clerics.
Meanwhile, the clerics agreed that they assaulted the crew but they filed a complaint, saying that Rasheed assaulted one of their cleric’s brother first.
