South Korean President added a bizarre political scandal to her name when the reports of her office buying 360 pills of Viagra started doing rounds in the media.

And President Park Geun-hye’s office even confirmed the revelations by an opposition lawmaker that it purchased the erectile dysfunction pills and the generic version of the drug in December.

As soon as the reports created a frenzy on the internet, South Korean President gave an explanation.

They said that they bought the pills to potentially treat altitude illness for presidential aides and employees on her trips to Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya.

A Blue House spokesman Jung Youn-kuk said that the pills were bought but weren’t used. Jung Youn-kuk said, ‘Viagra pills were purchased in preparation for altitude sickness ahead of (President) Park’s visit to African nations. None of them were used’.

According to a report in CNN, ‘South Korean doctors prescribe Viagra-style drugs to climbers because they are believed to be effective in preventing altitude sickness’.

The report said quoted an Australian mountaineer Andrew Lock, ‘The benefit in terms of climbing is if someone is suffering altitude sickness … that particular drug will help you dilate those blood vessels and carry that fluid away from the lungs, because if you don’t get that fluid out you can actually drown in (them).

But the reports suggested divided medical opinion.
