A Delhi school has denied admission to a girl, and it instantly created headlines. You might be thinking that denying admission in a school is a trivial matter, but if you’re thinking that the reason the school gave, was appropriate, then you’re wrong. You won’t believe what the reason was.
The Delhi school reportedly denied admission to the girl because she was a RAPE SURVIVOR. Yes, you read it right. The class X student who survived the trauma of rape now has to fight another battle, and the battle is with her own school. The insensitive matter came to light after the girl’s parents went for the admission of the girl in class XI. The school turned down the admission request, saying that this will bring ‘bad name’ to the school.
The girl was studying in the same school, and was allegedly kidnapped, raped and thrown out of a moving car few months ago. And now the girl wants to take admission in the same school in class XI. But the school denied admission as it would ‘spoil’ the reputation. And therefore, the school said that they can admit the girl in class XI but won’t allow her to come to school.
The parents have approached the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), who have issued a notice to the Directorate of Education (DoE). DCW Chief Swati Maliwal said that the school mentioned that they won’t be responsible for the safety of their child and that she will not be able to use the school bus like earlier if she accepts the condition.
Maliwal added that this is a very serious matter and strict action will be taken against it.
It’s our responsibility to provide safe and secure environment to our girls. But instead of doing that, we are making things more complicated for them. We need to grow up.
