A major fire broke out in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk market on Monday night, gutting around 40-50 wholesale shops in Katra Dhulia. Around 29 fire tenders were rushed to Chandi Chowk to douse the fire after the fire control room was informed about it. Even though no casualty was reported from the incident, good worth crores is believed to have been lost.

Amidst all the tension and chaos, AAP MLA Alka Lamba reached the spot, and her presence only angered the shopkeepers. Why? Because of her ‘theatrics’. Alka Lamba climbed a fire brigade crane, and was seen waving to the people of her constituency, and was a big obstruction to the fire operations. The shop owners expressed their anger towards the move, and questioned her as to why did she do all this ‘tamasha’.
Aam Aadmi Party has yet again courted controversy because of the midnight theatrics by its leader, and has angered the shopkeepers too much. The shopkeepers said that while it was difficult for the fire tenders to reach the spot because of the small lanes of Chandni Chow, Alka Lamba only made it more difficult to do so. A special fire brigade had to be called just to get Lamba down from the crane.
Why this drama, Ms Lamba?
According to a report by India.com, the shopkeepers said that the MLA’s antics hampered the efforts to put out the fire by almost an hour. Here’s what some of them said:
One of them said –
‘She halted the work and indulged in theatrics. What was the need of doing politics?’
Another one said –
‘Shops are being gutted in fire and she is busy in photoshoot. What is the point of stopping their (firefighters) work?’
BJP leader Tajinder Pal S Bagga took to Twitter to lash out at Lamba, calling her act ‘shameful’ and said that politics shouldn’t be done at such a time.
