It seems the Gurmehar Kaur case will not end any soon. The DU student was trolled, threatened and mocked by several people on social media for running a campaign against ABVP violence in Ramjas College.
The 20-year-old daughter of Kargil martyr Mandeep Singh was getting rape threats on her Facebook account. And although it’s not certain that why she withdrew her campaign recently, it seems that the threats might be one of the reasons for it.
She even filed a complaint with Delhi Commission of Women (DCW), and they have taken the lead over the case. The DCW chief Swati Maliwal issued a legal notice to Facebook and sought the details of those who threatened Gurmehar.
They have also asked Facebook to immediately deactivate their accounts. The organisation further asked the social networking site to reveal IP addresses and contact details of the people involved in it.
Maliwai, in a notice said, ‘The Commission is in receipt of a complaint from her which is self-explanatory and contains relevant screen shots of rape threats and abuse as evidence.’
