Do you remember the reports about the mass rapes in Murthal during the Jat agitation in February earlier this year? While the Haryana police kept denying the reports, the Punjab and Haryana High Court said that the reports, in fact, are true.
There were reports that women were dragged out of the cars and raped in the fields just 50 km from Delhi in a place called Murthal, which is famous for various eateries and dhabas. While the Haryana police said that there were no credible eye witnesses, who could back the claims of mass rapes, the court said that the allegations were NOT without basis.
The court, now, has ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) so that the efforts to identity the women and their attackers can be doubled.
As per the reports about Murthal rapes, two of the dhaba owners had reportedly told the police during the agitation that around 30 cars were stopped nearby and ten women were pulled out and raped. The police said that the pictures of women’s undergarments in the field that went viral were looted from the shops.
They also said that the owner of the famous Sukhdev dhaba, who was questioned for six hours, did not confirm any rape around the place.
