Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing everything he can to promote yoga across the world, and we just celebrated the third International Yoga Day yesterday. Several politicians and Yoga guru Baba Ramdev have been active way before the Yoga Day to indulge as many people as possible to come out and perform yoga. While thousands joined PM Modi on Yoga Day despite rains in the morning in Lucknow, Baba Ramdev led a similar event in Ahmedabad on June 21.
Yes, there was a huge gathering at the GMDC ground in Gujarat’s capital, but did you know that the number was somewhere around 3 lakh? Well, if Baba Ramdev is to be believed, around 3 lakh people performed yoga at the ground yesterday and created a Guinness World Record for being the largest yoga session.
People performer yoga under the guidance of Ramdev, and dignitaries present at the event were Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel BJP president Amit Shah and ex-Chief Minister Anandiben Patel. There were some IAS and IPS officers, and some judges of the High Court as well.
Ramdev said –
‘Today is the most important day for me, as more than three lakh people performed yoga at one place to set a new world record. We have broken the previous world record, which was set in the presence of our PM, by a huge margin.’

The previous record was set in Delhi on June 21, 2015 when 35,985 people performed yoga at Rajpath along with PM Modi.
Amit Shah said –
‘Though India was trying hard to make yoga popular across the globe since 2011, we got success after the United Nations accepted Modiji’s proposal in 2014 and declared June 21 as the World Yoga Day. Since then, the popularity of yoga is increasing across the world rapidly.’
