A final year MBBS student helped a woman to deliver her baby after she went into labour in a moving train, and how he performed the complicated delivery, is really going to impress you. Vipin Khadse, who is NOT a qualified doctor yet and is still in the final stages of MBBS training, delivered a healthy baby boy aboard the Ahmedabad-Puri Express, thanks to WhatsApp. Yes, you read it right.
As the woman went into labour, the ticket collector and the guard were looking for a doctor on the train. While he kept quiet for some time in search of a qualified, he offered to help when they couldn’t find any. Chitralekha and her husband were panicking as there was a lot of blood loss, and instead of the head, the baby’s shoulder was hanging out of the vagina. The parents, who work as labourers, were heading to Raipur when Chitralekha started having her labour pains.
The passengers were quick to vacate the compartment, and some woman helped the MBBS student in delivering the boy. Vipin, who is still studying, sent a picture in a WhatsApp group of doctors for help. And a senior doctor helped him in delivering the baby. The MBBS student said –
‘I had to use chilled water bottles to stop her bleeding. The amniotic fluid had completely dried. A midwife on the train helped me.’
The train was 30 km away from Nagpur when this happened, and as soon as the train reached Nagpur, a team led by a woman doctor took control of the situation, and the parents were allowed to continue with their journey with some medication.
