The farmers in Madhya Pradesh began their protests on June 1, and after 10 days, the protests have only gone worse. Amidst all the protests, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has started his indefinite fast, which will continue until ‘peace is restored’. While the MP government is doing everything it can to calm down the farmers, it seems other parties are adding fuel to the fire. [Is the farmers protest in Madhya Pradesh politically motivated? Here’s what this FB post said]
A video that went viral on social media showed a Congress MLA asking people to set a police station on fire. Yes, you read it right. Congress MLA Shakuntala Khatik, who represents Karera Assembly segment, was staging a protest at Karera Police Station against the killings of farmers in Mandsaur. A video surfaced on the internet, where a senior cop could be seen trying to calm her down, and she was caught on camera, asking the protesting farmers to torch the police station.
She was heard –
‘Thane ko jala do (torch the police station).’
The video was originally shared by BJP National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, and it was shot during a protest on Friday when an effigy of Chouhan was burnt and the police poured water on the effigy to douse the fire.
After the video went viral, Congress MLA, while talking to media, dismissed all the charges and said that police misbehaved with her.
Delhi Congress spokesman Harvir Singh Raghuvanshi said that the policemen threw water on the MLA during the protest. He said –
‘She must have said this out of anger due to the police action. Her intention was not to do so as Congress is against any kind of violence.’
Several parts of Madhya Pradesh have been boiling ever since the farmers launched their agitation.
