We, as a nation, haven’t been able to protect our women, isn’t it? Whether they are on the streets or in our own home. If you say that you’ve heard about cases of molestation and eve-teasing, the cases of domestic violence are no less. Yes, you read it right.
Tara Sahdev’s husband married one Ranjit Singh Kohli aka Raqibul Hasan on July 7, 2014. The athlete alleged that she was tortured to convert to Islam. In her complaint, she said that Hasan used to unleash his dogs on her, burn her by his cigarettes and beat her to force her.
In the charge sheet, the CBI charged Kohli aka Hasan, Tara’s mother-in-law Kaushal Rani and the then Registrar, Vigilance, Jharkhand High Court, Mushtaque Ahmed for alleged criminal conspiracy and dowry. The agency has also charged Ahmed with eve-teasing and pressurising Tara’s family to get married to Hasan. Tara Sahdev also said that Ranjit had concealed his religious identity before marriage.
