Just two weeks into the circulation of Reserve Bank of India’s new Rs 500 notes, there already are two different variants of the currency. In what came as a huge embarrassment for the government and RBI, there are defects in the new Rs 500 notes.
This came amidst the still persisting demonetisation crisis, and reports said that the new notes issued by the banks are surprisingly different in colour and design from each other. Yes, you read it right.
Even though one of the main reasons that was cited for demonetisation, was counterfeiting, but such a blunder could cause counterfeiting in a very easy way.
And guess what? RBI has admitted to the mistake and said that this could be due to the ‘rush’ in printing. Can you imagine?
