Elections are a big thing in a democratic country, and India is the largest democracy in the world. A democracy is a form of government where the people choose their representatives. Recently, allegations were made by some that the electronic voting machines could be hacked and the election results could be hence changed according to one’s favor. Is this really true? It is a major issue for sure as if the voting machine could be hacked then the country is no more democratic. This is because if the people cannot choose their representatives no matter which button they press, the democracy of the country loses its essence. A challenge was made by the Election Commission of the country to find out the truth in the fact of electronic voting machines being unhackable. Highly qualified technicians or hackers were challenged that they could try to break into the machine and if they were unable to then it would be proved that indeed the machines cannot be hacked at all.
Unhackable machines ensure fair results of the elections and hence empower the spirit of democracy. Sources also pointed that the hackers should be able to hack the machine in under 10 days to prove that it is unhackable. Such a challenge was also posed in around 2009 and the machines were proved to be unhackable, and hence fair elections were ensured. [Also see: All smartphones to vanish soon?
