A lot of people love the Facebook Live feature. They use it to show the world what they are doing LIVE. In other words, you can broadcast your activities to a lot of people in real time instantly via this feature. You must already know this if you have ever used it yourself or seen somebody else’s broadcast.
Did you hear about the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl that was shown LIVE on Facebook? Well, the girl, who is a resident of Chicago, was allegedly raped by six men who streamed the assault on Facebook Live. She had gone out to a store on March 19, and parents filed a missing complaint after she did not return.
Later, someone known to that girl saw that video on Facebook and informed the police. She returned home after two days. Police said that the incident was viewed by dozens of people in real time but no cared to inform them. According to a report by WGN-TV, a police official said –
‘What’s even more disturbing, more than the fact that they did this, there were so many people that saw this and they didn’t pick up the phone and dial 911.’
If in real life, you witness a crime going on, you should act as an active citizen and do the necessary things required! The online world isn’t too different from that! The first thing that you should do is start recording that video with your phone or via screen record. It is possible that the person posting it can delete it afterward or end the LIVE stream. If he or she deletes it then it would be difficult to take action against the crime happening.
You must note down the id, name, or whatever information you can get about the person who is posting that video.
Another thing that you should do immediately is, dialing an emergency number. Tell the police any details that you find in the video. Try to locate details about the crime scene in the video. See if you find something familiar like the place where the scene is taking place. [Must see: This Is The Perfect Smartphone Launched By Gionee. Everybody wants to have this!]
Do not try to contact the person posting that video. If the individual is a criminal, you should keep as far distance from them as humanly possible! The next thing you should do is to report the video to Facebook. Facebook takes strict actions against those who violate the guidelines of the Facebook community.
Share what happened with your family and friends. They can probably help you to deal with the incident taking place. It is always wise to consider suggestions by many people.
Do not share that video. Sharing the video could only encourage the one posting it to make more such videos, instead of spreading awareness. You must act as an active citizen wherever you can, whenever you can, as the crime that’s happening with someone today could be happening with you tomorrow.
