In an interview with NDTV, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi spoke about why it is important to have curfews and timing set for girls as far as hostels are concerned. She said that putting time limits on hostels for girls protect them from ‘hormonal outbursts’.
The interview was conducted for Women’s Day, a girl asked her why girls should have an early curfew in hostels and rented accommodations. Maneka Gandhi said that curfew was important for parents who send their kids far from their houses to hostels as the teenage students, at the age of 16 or 17, are ‘hormonally very challenged’.
She said, ‘In order to protect the girls from their own “hormonal outbursts,” it is essential to draw a lakshman rekha.’
But then she was quick to realise what she said that the situation applies for both male and female students.
But the Twitteratti could not stop trolling Gandhi for what she said.
