The brand new advertisement from Vicks is bound to touch every heart. It’s about a mother-daughter duo where the daughter Gayatri, on her way to a boarding school, is narrating the story about how she spends ‘fun Sundays’ with her adoptive mother.
This Vicks ad is based on a true story has been directed by Neeraj Ghaywan of Masaan fame. Gayartri’s mother, who was a sex-worker, died when she was six-years-old. And that was the time when she was adopted by Gauri Sawant, who raised her with all the love and affection. Gayatri, in the narration, tells the world how they bonded over time, and how Gauri always inspired her.
Then comes the revelation in the Vicks ad, that Gauri is a transgender woman, who sends Gayatri away to a boarding school so that other children do not make fun of her.
While Gauri wants her to be a doctor, Gayatri revealed that she wants to be a lawyer instead so that she can make the world a better place for people like her mother. She wants to make sure that they are entitled to basic freedom and rights.
We bet you cried, didn’t you?
